Foxwoods and MGM Casinos

The weekend of March 19th I had a bit more local travel but still wanted to include it in my blog. On Saturday, my Mom, Cheryl, and I drove up to Foxwoods Casino and stayed overnight all in celebration of Meridith's bachelorette party! That day while Annie & Cheryl enjoyed the casino, I joined the girls at the Spa, donning a white robe, slippers, and enjoyed some champagne, hot tub & pool, and quality time with the ladies.

Later in the evening, about 15 of us went to dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. We had a great time and I especially enjoyed outfitting Meridith in a bachelorette sash and tiara, complete with a viel. She looked very cute, as you can see.

From there, we enjoyed the Scorpion Bar and Shrine for a night of dacing and drinks! We had a great time and all really enjoyed celebrating Meridith's "last night out" as a "single" lady!

The next day, Cheryl, Mom, and I enjoyed some time in the casino. That was the first time I've ever enjoyed gambling! I played about $30 and left with $45 so I was pretty excited with my tiny $15 earnings, haha! All in all, it was a fun overnight and a great bachelorette party! :)
Here's to Meridith!

Portland, Maine

I was lucky enough to be able to visit Portland, Maine overnight for work in March! My coworker, Frank, brought his wife, Charlene, and I brought my Mom along. We stayed in a lovely hotel and had a really nice overnight there. When we arrived, we enjoyed a drink and appetizer at Ri Ra's, an Irish bar.

Later that evening, we ate dinner at DeMillo's Floating Restaurant and had some delicious lobster and drawn butter...yum! We had a great meal and great company.

The next day in the morning my Mom and I walked around and enjoyed some breakfast from the next door bakery-so cute. While Frank and I were at our meeting, my Mom and Charlene poked around the shops, which are adorable in Portland. Plenty of cutesy things to peruse and enjoy.

While it was a quick getaway, it was a great one! Looking forward to going back to Portland sometime this summer maybe with Matt to enjoy it during the nice weather :)

Even my horoscope knows!

Okay, even my horoscope gets it...

Aquarius Horoscope for Today, Mar 10, 2011

Travel by air seems possible today, Aquarius. The appeal of foreign countries may be too strong to resist. If you don't have a passport, you'd better apply! Friends may be planning a trip abroad and invite you to accompany them. Your sense of adventure should ensure that you won't say no, but if you're tempted to for any reason, reconsider! Travel is important to you right now.

The weird thing is..I was looking online at flights today, looking at an Ireland book, and also...my renewed passport arrived in the mail today. That's just weird!!

I flipped through all the blank pages and felt thrilled to think of all the stamps from different places it will be filled with and all the memories to be made through travel. :)

The Golden Isles, GA

This is exciting because it's my first actual "travel" entry! This past weekend I visited Matt in Brunswick & the Golden Isles (Jekyll Island, St. Simon's Island, etc) in Georgia. Since Matt is down in training in this area, it only made sense for me to come visit him. We had a fantastic time in Savannah in February (pre-blog)...and it wasn't like he had to twist my arm for a reason for me to come to warmer temperatures than winter in Mass!

We had some great meals while we were there. Tramici's-an adorable Italian restaurant, Southern Soul BBQ-pulled pork!, Gnat's Landing-beers in mason jars and bar food, and a yummy brunch (with grits, of course!) at Mallery's Cafe. We're foodies-what can I say?

During our time, other than eating (haha), we did a lot of driving around to see the different areas. We went to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center and got to see some cute turtles who are being rehabilitated and learn about them.

We spent a lot of time walking on the grounds of the Jekyll Island Club Hotel, pretty famous back in the day.

We also spent time walking on the beach and even laying out in 60ish degree weather..ah being a New Englander. We had a jacuzzi in our room-not a creepy one, but a really nice one. Of course we couldn't let that go to waste!! :)

On our last day, after packing up and a delish brunch, we went to the waterfront at St. Simon's Island and enjoyed the beautiful weather (75 degrees that day!). We put a blanket out in the park and soaked up the sun and just enjoyed one another's company. We also had some great conversation in a sunny spot with rocking chairs. Long distance and travel really make you appreciate the simple pleasures in life.

All in all, it was a wonderful weekend with great company, great food, great hotel, great weather...and lots of conversation about future travel!

Type A/Nerd

Haha this is an embarrassing example of how much of a nerd I am because once I calculated my "three 9 night vacations per year" theory, I went through my calendar. I then looked for weeks with Monday holidays, and tried to space them out every few months.

January: One nine night vacation using MLK Jr day
May: One nine night vacation using Memorial Day
September: One nine night vacation using Labor Day

Well, at least we know it's definitely do-able to do three nine night vacations evenly spaced out per year! :)
